Welcome to SBRD
Sponsor the new SMART Building Directory!
(formerly the Sustainable Building Resource Directory)
VSBN needs two more sponsors to relaunch its SMART Building Directory. Thank you to Centennial Construction for its Platinum sponsorship and Calvert-Jones for a Bronze sponsorship.
VSBN is working to re-issue a new, improved version of our mid-Atlantic directory for Green products, services, and programs by March 2009. Sponsors receive high visibility for a year in the directory, which will also feature special advertising, event promotions, and a Green Job posting area. See the sponsorship form for details or contact the VSBN office for more information at 703-486-2966.

The Sustainable Building Resource Directory is a website-based information resource for the mid-Atlantic region. The searchable database of Green Building and Sustainable Development businesses, organizations, and programs has been developed to:
- Promote and facilitate the adoption of Green Building concepts and practices by consumers, the public sector, and building owners and managers in the mid-Atlantic region;
- Identify regional design and construction businesses and building product companies that use or supply environmentally sound and energy efficient techniques and materials;
- Identify federal, state, and local government programs, community organizations and non-profit organizations and associations that support and promote the implementation of Green Building and Sustainable Development practices; and
- Provide a boost to economic development in related sectors.
What Is A Green Building?
Green buildings are structures that are cost-effectively designed, built, and operated in a manner that achieves the greatest possible energy efficiency, indoor air quality, occupant health, resource efficiency, and environmental compatibility. Green buildings are important elements of sustainable communities because they promote the use of locally produced, renewable products, environmentally sound development and construction practices, and energy-and resource-efficient systems. These practices help create communities that improve the quality of life and economic vitality for current and future generations.
Why a Mid-Atlantic Directory
The SBRD has been assembled to help create a sustainable future for the mid-Atlantic Region. The directory is a dynamic database of Green businesses, programs and organizations that are located in the mid-Atlantic or that have representatives in this region. By compiling information about environmentally friendly resources in the Mid-Atlantic Region, we hope to make it easier for building owners, design and construction companies, and governments to integrate Green design and products into their new or existing buildings.
